The basic element in solar modules
The third part of the production process involves the production of solar cells from the wafers. They are the key components of the resulting solar modules. These cells already house all of the technical characteristics required to generate electricity from sunlight. Light radiation releases positive and negative charge carriers, resulting in flows of electrical current (direct current).
The Cell division is part of SolarWorld subsidiaries SolarWorld Industries Sachsen GmbH, SolarWorld Industries Thüringen GmbH and SolarWorld Industries America LP. They manufacture solar cells from the input product – solar silicon wafers. The Group manufactures both monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar cells.
One of the most advanced solar cell production facilities in the world works around the clock to produce monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar cells. The wafers are manufactured in the clean rooms at SolarWorld Industries Sachsen GmbH using cutting edge processing facilities with maximum automation.
The fully-integrated production concept facilitates flexible control of the use of all auxiliary materials required to produce and to continuously optimise material utilisation during operation. This concept permits us to guarantee the unique quality standard of our solar cells and simultaneously reduce the waste rate relative to conventional processes. This not only reduces production costs, it contributes to the solar cell production expertise in the SolarWorld group.
